On Saturday, August 28, Newspring held an art studio open house to showcase the positive atmosphere for middle and high school students in our visual arts program. Participants were able to have their caricature made by Art Studio Director, Joanne Frimel and produce a sculpture using wire and mesh. Guests left their artistic talent on our mini mural and created glass-like objects using acetate film. The open house also featured professional photographer and video producer Juan Islas, EV1 Productions. Juan showcased his photography portfolio to participants at the open house.

Memorial Drive United Methodist Discovery Tour
Newspring held a Spring Branch discovery tour on Thursday, August 19, 2010 for Memorial Drive United Methodist Church. The tour made a stop at Hollibrook Elementary for a guided tour of the new school. Memorial Drive United Methodist has been very active in mentoring students at Hollibrook Elementary and will continue with its mentorship in the school's new facility . The tour of Hollibrook concluded with a round of prayers blessing the new school and the students that come through its doors. Student Art Studio Blessing
On Saturday, July 17, Newspring opened its art studio doors for a time of prayer and blessing for the art studio and its future. Participants engaged in a creative prayer time with an arts and crafts twist. Song, led by Robert Westheimer, also inspired those in attendance. Thanks to everyone who has made the art studio possible and for making this event such a success.

Christ the King Discovery Tour
Newspring held a Spring Branch discovery tour on Saturday, July 10, 2010 for Christ the King Presbyterian Church. The tour made prayer stops at the Christ the King site on Silber as well as Northbrook High School. Special thanks to Brad DeLoach for this great opportunity!
2010 Student Art Auction
The 2010 Student Art Auction featured 56 pieces from Spring Branch ISD middle and high school students. The live silent auction was held on Monday, May 10th from 6:30 - 8:30 pm at Guadalajara Hacienda.100% of the proceeds went to the student artists. Newspring would like to thank The Ashton Company, Bradley's Art & Frame, and Guadalajara Hacienda for their generous in-kind donations.
2010 Business Plan Competition Awards Banquet
The third annual Newspring Business Plan Competition was completed with a final judging April 29, 2010. This year’s competition saw over 25 entrants apply, with 19 teams selected to begin the competition. Seventeen of the teams selected delivered an investor ready plan on April 8. Five of the 17 qualifying teams made it to the finals where they had the opportunity to present their business plan to a panel of judges. The judges listened to the presentations, then deliberated in closed session before selecting the winners. Newspring provided experienced business advisors to each team. HCC’s Spring Branch campus provided each team with a Faculty Sponsor.
Winning teams received their seed capital on April 30 at HCC’s Spring Branch campus. The awards are as follows:
1st Place: Amy Asch Photography - $12,000 award
Amy and Tom Asch, with Newspring advisers Steve Tacconelly, JB Day, and Jamie DeBellas
2nd Place: Maker Acre - $8,000 award
Filip Valica with Newspring advisers Chuck Fox, Milt Hempel and Mike Eyre
3rd Place: International Consulates - $4,000 award
Lisa Reyna with Newspring advisers Joe Dean Phipps and David Simpson
Finalists presented their business plans on April 29th to a panel of judges including: CEO of Emerald Investments, Larry Kellner, Chairman of Memorial Hermann, Gerald Bennett, Senior VP at Bank of America, Trudi C. Nix, Executive Vice President, Sysco's Foodservice Operations, Larry Pulliam, and retired CEO, consultant and author, Jack Barry.
Chapelwood Hispanic Ministry Core Team Spring Branch Tour
Newspring held a Spring Branch discovery tour on Friday, February 5, 2010 for the Chapelwood Hispanic Ministry Core Team. The tour made prayer stops at the future Pitner baseball field location as well as at the Ministerio Esperanza en Cristo. Special thanks to Kenny Baldwin for this great opportunity!
Annual Fundraising Dinner - Breakfast por la Noche
Newspring will hold its second annual fundraising dinner - Breakfast por la Noche on Sunday, September 19, 2010. Be sure to save the date!
Newspring held its annual fundraising dinner with the theme of “Hatching Something New in Spring Branch.” Supporters gathered for Breakfast por la Noche on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. Special guest speakers included: Jim Herrington, Founder of Mission Houston, Zach Hodges, President of Houston Community College NW, Jack Barry, former CEO and current business plan competition coordinator, Victor Alvarez, Newspring Executive Director, and Robert Westheimer, Newspring Founder & Chairman of the Board. Breakfast por la Noche was a great opportunity for community leaders to connect.
Newspring would like to think all participants and volunteers for making this event a great success.
Ministry Leaders Bus Tour
Ministries working in the Spring Branch area gathered on December 2, 2009 to learn about the history of the Spring Branch community and pray for its needs. Fourteen churches participated in this 38-mile tour throughout the heart of Spring Branch alongside churches, schools, various real-estate developments, and places of need. Ministers were exposed to the socio-economic contrast that exists within the Spring Branch community including three prayer stops. After completing the tour, participants went to lunch at Tacos Del Julio.
2nd Spring Branch Discovery Tour
Newspring held a second discovery tour of Spring Branch on Saturday, September 19, 2009. Participants were driven around Spring Branch to its points of interest to gain perspective on this area of great socioeconomic contrasts. The tour gives participants a fresh look into the Spring Branch community as well as the opportunity to pray for its future. The tour was guided by Victor Alvarez, both Spring Branch community leader and Newspring's Executive Director. Upon completion of the tour, participants were taken to Tacos Del Julio for lunch.
1st Spring Branch Discovery Tour
Newspring held our first ever Spring Branch discovery tour on August 29, 2009. The discovery tour was a huge success. Newspring held the tour in order to open the eyes of Spring Branch residents to the socio-economic contrasts that exist within the Spring Branch area. Led by Victor Alvarez, Newspring Executive Director, participants drove 38 miles throughout the heart of Spring Branch alongside churches, schools, places of need, and various real-estate developments.
