Visual Arts

Mission Statement

The mission of Newspring Visual Arts is to nurture middle and high school art students in Spring Branch and to promote and sell their artwork at an auction held in the Spring.

The Student Art Auction

Newspring Visual Arts is a student art project created to nurture middle and high school art students in Spring Branch. One of the ways we accomplish this is by hosting an annual art auction of student artwork. The students create original works of art and submit them. A panel of volunteer judges, comprised of professional artists, mentor the students and determine which pieces are to be included in the auction. Compensation for the student’s work comes in the form of a Savings Account Deposit or a gift card in the amount of the winning bid. Click here to see pictures from the 2011 Student Art Auction.

Professional Artists at Schools

Another way in which we nurture art students is to send out professional artists to the art classes at Landrum Middle School, Northbrook Middle School, Spring Woods Middle School, Cornerstone Academy, Spring Oaks Middle School, Spring Woods High School and Northbrook High School. periodically, one of the professional artists will visit a school and discuss his or her profession. Topics include: their medium, their schooling, selection of subject matter, pricing of artwork, and many others that explain how and why they chose art as a career. There is a question and answer session during each visit, so the students can interact with the artists. The artists also assist the students with their projects by critiquing their work, when asked. Our goal is for the artists to be able to demonstrate how the love of art can be turned into a profession.
