Laura Sprague
Laura Sprague received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Art Education at the University of Wisconsin/Madison with a minor in Jewelry/metal smithing in 1980. She is certified to teach Art from Kindergarten through 12th Grade.
Before dedicating her life to the education of young people, Laura Sprague spent three years in the business world as an Architectural Model Builder with William Burwell and Associates in Houston, Texas. She was responsible for scale size representation of large scale building projects.
Laura has 8 years of experience in secondary art in both junior and senior high with Houston Independent School District, Northwest Academy, West Houston Home Educators and Faith West Academy. She is a member of the Texas Art Education Association and the National Art Education Association.
In 2003-04 Laura’s high school students acquitted themselves well in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools art meets. In 2004-05 her students won 1st in the 3A districts in Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (T.A.P.P.S.) art meet, and ultimately finished 5th in the State meet.
Laura Sprague directed the 3A T.A.P.P.S. meet in 2005-06 with her students winning 2nd place in the district meet and 6th place in the State meet.
From 2003-2006 she taught a 1st-5th grade weekly art program and is certified to teach pre-A.P. studio art through the College Board.
Since 2007, Laura has judged various levels of T.A.P.P.S. art competitions. In 2007 and 2009 she judged the 2A art meets, while she was a judge for the 5A competition in 2008. In 2009, the 4A competition level employed her as a judge.
In her ongoing desire to improve art instruction and to serve her colleagues, Laura was the 5A State Art Division Director over 23 schools for T.A.P.P.S. from 2007 through 2009. She also worked as an art teacher for City Art Works at SBISD Rummel Creek Elementary, having her students exhibited at MFAH and has been in high demand for private studio lessons since 2008.
Over the past 3 decades Laura has engaged in hundreds of hours of professional development and most recently, participating in drawing classes at Rice University and painting workshops around the State of Texas and continues in her passion as an art educator.
