Newspring's Volunteer of the MonthDecemberNewspring's Volunteer of the Month for December is Carol Andrews Jensen! Carol Andrews Jensen's background is photography and she has quite a resume, including exhibits in Cologne, Germany, EPCOT center, and the International Masters Loan Collection. She is one of only four female members of the prestigious Cameracrafstmen of America. Carol has volunteered with Newspring for two years, mentoring art students in Spring Branch schools. She has also given of her time to present programs at our art studio, and has introduced Newspring to a professional women's group, PROW. She has also recruited her husband Greg, a silver craftsman, to speak to art students in the schools. Carol has been a wonderful ambassador for Newspring! NovemberNewspring's Volunteer of the Month for November is Jack and Judy Barry! Jack and Judy Barry have both been active with Newspring almost since inception. Judy has served as School Coordinator for our art program and has been indispensable in planning and conducting our annual art auction. Her dedication, ideas, and opinions have helped shape this program as it has grown. Jack is the heart and soul of Newspring's business plan competition and has developed a training curriculum unique to a community college environment over the past four years. He has been the primary architect for the competition, and has also served as a judge each year. Without highly qualified and dedicated volunteers like Judy and Jack, Newspring would not be what it is today. Thank you for all you do! OctoberNewspring's Volunteer of the Month for October is Joanne Frimel! Joanne Frimel has inspired the Newspring Art Studio, volunteering hundreds of hours of her time as well as sharing with Newspring her knowledge and expertise of art and teaching. Joanne brings an always optimistic attitude and an uplifting spirit to the studio and to every student that walks through its doors. She has been instrumental in the programming of our summer and year round art classes. She is passionate about art and exudes unbounded creativity and knowledge. SeptemberNewspring's Volunteer of the Month for September is Carter Bliss! Carter is the Facilities Director for Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. His history of support for Newspring goes back to Newspring's inception. Carter has been instrumental in assisting Newspring in furnishing our art studio, providing surplus cabinets, supplies and furniture items that we would otherwise need to purchase. In addition Carter has provided indispensable, logistical support to our annual Student Art Auction, and helping us to set up at Sculptures by Design. Thank you, Carter! AugustNewspring's Volunteer of the Month for August is Shirley Gonzales! Shirley has volunteered with Newspring since its inception in 2006 and helps with all functions including navigating our Discover/Prayer Tours! She is a mother of two and has her own real estate company in Spring Branch. She is a long-time Spring Branch resident who always takes time out of her busy life to help Newspring. Shirley said "[she] loves knowing that [she] is helping to make a difference in the community's youth." Volunteer OpportunitiesNewspring would like to thank our existing volunteers including the business advisers, business council, fund-raising committee, art teachers, art council, and everybody else who helps whenever they can. We continue to offer a great opportunity for you to volunteer with Newspring. Some of our immediate needs are in the following areas: Newspring is looking for business minds to coach entrepreneurial hopefuls during the Business Plan Competition. Newspring is seeking a volunteer to help with graphic design Newspring is always looking for professional artists interested in mentoring visual art students Newspring is also seeking adults willing to supervise students at the art studio during the after school program from 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm Monday through Thursday.
