American Sign Language Impact
NewSpring offers American Sign Language Classes led by volunteer and certified instructor, Sheila Johnstone. The class has had a profound impact on one family:
Our son, has profound bilateral SNHL and is currently in a Deaf Ed program through the school district. He just turned 5 and is rapidly learning sign language in school and we have been eager to keep up with his communication. This course is perfect for us, we are learning through practiced dialog with new vocabulary every session.
We are not only learning ASL and its grammar, but we are also learning the Deaf Culture. It amazes us every week, how her passion for teaching and advocating for the deaf community is expressed by her volunteering actions with this program.
Again, we thank NewSpring and Ms. Sheila for this perfect opportunity for our family. We are able to learn and bring back the knowledge to our home and our communication with our son!
